The Challenge
No Local Billing Expertise
Mizell needed billing and coding help its rural community could not supply. As the hospital added beds, nuclear medicine, a sleep center, senior behavioral health, a wellness center and a primary care clinic, the administrative load grew well past what local hiring could cover.
No one nearby could code and complete patient charts, collect outstanding balances or handle the daily work of a revenue cycle. Claims still went out on paper, and every account past 365 days was adjusted off in full rather than worked. That meant healthcare reimbursement the hospital had already earned went uncollected.
The Coronis Health Approach
Coronis Health Rebuilt the Revenue Cycle
Coronis Health rebuilt Mizell’s revenue cycle in stages rather than all at once. The work began with healthcare coding services delivered through Allegiance Group, and as that succeeded it grew into full healthcare revenue cycle management and a complete lift-out of the business office, including cash posting and day-one billing.
Electronic claims — Coronis Health set up every major payer to send and receive claims and payments electronically, replacing the paper process the hospital had relied on.
Clean claim scrubbing — A claims scrubber (Waystar) catches errors before submission, which helped improve the clean claim rate to a maintained 90% and above.
Rural Health conversion — Coronis Health and Mizell staff worked together on chargemaster setup, new payer codes and NPI registration, then re-coded and re-billed more than 500 accounts and $100K to Rural Health Certified standards.
Aged AR recovery — Coronis Health began working every recoverable dollar on accounts past 365 days that the hospital had previously adjusted off in full.
The Results
A 90% Clean Claim Rate
The clean claim rate now holds at 90% or above week to week, and the gains carry across Mizell’s healthcare financial performance. Aged accounts once adjusted off are worked for every recoverable dollar, and the Rural Health conversion returned more than 500 accounts and $100K to billable status.
- Clean claim rate: 90% and above, maintained weekly

Why It Matters for Rural Hospitals
Rural hospitals often expand faster than their local labor market can staff. When coding and billing cannot be hired nearby, the revenue cycle is where the strain shows first, in paper claims and aged accounts. Outside medical revenue cycle management capacity lets a small hospital add services without letting collections slip.
